The award was presented on Thursday by Margaret Heighton, President and founder of the U.S.-based humanitarian organisation No End to Love, at Sonko’s Upper Hill offices in Nairobi.

Margaret Heighton, who was accompanied by her husband and co-founder Dave Heighton, praised Sonko for his extensive charitable work, particularly through the well-known Sonko Rescue Team. This initiative has been crucial in offering access to essential services such as healthcare and education for vulnerable children and families.

Following the event, Sonko took to social media to share his thoughts. “They commended my efforts and encouraged me to continue with my mission to assist those in need,” he posted. He also mentioned that Margaret had lauded him as a “role model to Kenya and many Kenyans for his kindness.”

This accolade arrives as Sonko continues his robust social outreach programmes, maintaining a significant philanthropic presence even after leaving political office. His charitable activities have frequently garnered both local and international attention, with his mobile rescue and aid services proving indispensable during emergencies, medical situations, and natural disasters.

Also present at the award ceremony was Ambassador Dominic Obadiah, the President and Founder of Civility Voice Diplomats (CVD) and a globally recognized World Civility Ambassador. Obadiah, a Kenyan national known for his humanitarian work across Africa, commended Sonko’s efforts in promoting peace and providing tangible aid to communities facing hardship.

Manduku McKay Daudi, a project assistant at CVD, was also in attendance and echoed the sentiments, praising Sonko for his unwavering dedication to humanitarian causes.

In his acceptance remarks, Sonko conveyed his profound gratitude for the honour and reiterated his dedication to championing charitable initiatives. “This award strengthens my resolve to keep making a difference. The work must go on,” he affirmed.
