Businessman and politician Philip Aroko has been taken into custody and is currently facing a detention period of seven days. This action follows a formal application submitted by the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) concerning the shocking and brutal murder of Kasipul Member of Parliament, Ongondo Were, which has garnered significant public attention.
The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) requested to hold the suspects for a period of 30 days. This extended detention is necessary to finalize ongoing investigations, which include the critical task of retrieving forensic information from the suspect’s mobile phone.
In his opposition to the bail request, Oroko formally asked the court for a period of five days. He expressed the need for this time to attend to his wife, who requires his support, as well as to manage his various business affairs that demand his personal involvement. Oroko emphasized the importance of being present for both his family and his professional responsibilities during this critical time, highlighting the urgency of his situation.
He emphasized that he does not pose a flight risk, asserting his commitment to the legal process. He voluntarily presented himself to the police, demonstrating his willingness to cooperate fully with the ongoing investigations. His proactive approach reflects his desire to address the situation responsibly and transparently.
The trial magistrate, Irene Gichobi, while granting the requested days, took into account the significant fact that the individual in question voluntarily presented himself at the Police Station. This action demonstrated a level of cooperation that influenced her decision.
The matter in question is scheduled to be mentioned in court on May 17, 2025, for further proceedings
