A pastor in Nyeri’s Witemere slums was killed by a mob on Saturday morning after being accused of sodomizing a nine-year-old boy. Simon Ndegwa, who served at the True Disciple Ministry in Majengo, was reportedly attacked due to claims that he had previously committed similar offenses. Nyeri Central Sub-County Police Commander Andrew Mbogo stated that by the time police arrived, the mob had already set the suspect on fire.

Initial investigations suggest this was not the first accusation against Ndegwa, with reports indicating he had faced similar allegations before, including incidents in Nanyuki. According to locals, the boy had been sent to a shop by his mother when he was approached by Ndegwa, a familiar figure to the family, who allegedly took him to his home and assaulted him.

The Shocking Case of the Nyeri Pastor and the Mob Justice

When the boy returned home, his mother noticed he was struggling to walk, and upon questioning him, he revealed the assault, prompting her to inform neighbors. The boy has since been taken to the hospital for treatment. This incident follows closely on the heels of the discovery of a seven-year-old girl’s body in the same area just a week prior.

Last Monday, authorities found the body of 7-year-old Tamara Blessing, who had been missing for three days, buried under the bed of Nicholas Macharia in his home located in the Witemere area of the Majengo slums. A family friend, Jackline Ruguru, spoke outside the morgue on Saturday, urging the public to stay calm while the family awaited the final report from the pathologist.

She mentioned that initial findings indicated that over 90 percent of the reported details might be accurate, but the police requested the family to be patient as the investigation continued. During the post-mortem on Friday, the government pathologist collected samples from Tamara’s body for further examination. Meanwhile, students at Judah Primary School, where Tamara was a first grader, held a memorial service to honor her memory, celebrating her as a bright and joyful child. Tamara’s burial is scheduled for Tuesday in Solio.
