Principal Secretary for the Ministry of Interior and National Administration, Raymond Omollo, has urged Members of Parliament and senators to enhance cyber laws in response to the swift evolution of technology.
He emphasized the necessity of tightening existing regulations to keep pace with the expanding digital landscape and its associated risks. Omollo pointed out that the Computer Misuse and Cyber-crime Act, established in 2018, requires strengthening to effectively address the rising incidents of computer misuse.
“That is more than 6 years ago. A lot of things have changed within the technology space,” said Omollo.

The PS said technology has been a useful tool for communication and innovation and must be protected from misuse.
“There are those who are not using that space positively and we need to relook the laws to strengthen them. We need to also look at what is happening in other jurisdictions so as to control hate speech and crime,” he added.
Omollo urged MPs to relook at some of the laws with an aim of strengthening them to deal with perpetrators who misuse technology.
Speaking in Kisumu when he opened a meeting of the Coast Parliamentary Group, the PS lauded the elected leaders from the Coast for keeping the government in check and advancing their development agenda.
