A businessman Samuel Karuga Wachiuri has been charged with defrauding Sh 5.9 million in a sugar and rice supply agreement and has been released on a cash bail of Sh 200,000. Samuel Karuga Wachiuri is accused of taking Sh 5,921,600 from Grace Njeri Irungu by falsely claiming he could supply 3000 bags of 50kgs of rice and 250 bags of 50kgs of sugar, which he knew was untrue.
Wachiuri, who is 37 years old, allegedly committed this crime on various dates between May 6 and May 15, 2025, in Nairobi, with the intention to defraud. He pleaded not guilty to the charges before Principal Magistrate Caroline Mugo. The prosecution argued against his bail release, stating that Wachiuri poses a flight risk and may attempt to tamper with witnesses.
